Helmepa, responding positively to the invitation of the directorates of primary and secondary education of Piraeus, is moving its “Educational Community & Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping & Sciences” to the island of Poros, Saronic Gulf.
• This initiative is supported by Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF) and has already visited 21 Greek towns and cities since 2011, mobilising more than 22,000 students and 1,600 teachers.
Besides raising awareness among schoolchildren and teachers of the Greek periphery on the themes of the campaign, the aim of this initiative is also to inspire children to learn more about science, engineering and new technologies in the service of the environment and humanity.
• On the island of Poros, under the auspices of the local municipality, the campaign’s environmental Exhibition will be hosted at Syggrou Municipal Hall from 15 to 29 November 2016.
In cooperation with the directorates of primary and secondary education of Piraeus, Helmepa will transport to the exhibition all of the island’s pupils, as well as pupils from primary and high schools of the adjacent Trizinia-Methana region, on the campaign’s expenses. A ‘train-the-trainer’ seminar for teachers titled “The marine environment and us: ensuring a sustainable future” is scheduled on Tuesday 15 November, while other voluntary actions will also take place in cooperation with the Municipality of Poros and local stakeholders.
